Hoodman!

When I was in New York I got to know a few of the guys who worked at the hotel we were at. One of them, Donald, is really into film. He Stars in and produces a new Web show called Hoodman. Hoodman is a superhero who protects the hood, but for a price...................or a cute girls phone number! He asked me to help him with promotional stuff for the show and these are some of the rough images i've started to do. Trying to get the character right first of all. Ain't so easy! So here's the latest:

And here is the real Hoodman. Just chillin'! Just surveying! Just protecting the hood and scouting the babes!

A Little Bit Better

Here's another After Effects animation for you. Still the same subject matter but instead of just panning a camera around there's a little animation thrown in and some colour. Still pretty basic but another step forwards.

More ideas already brewing so maybe something a little more advanced next time. Might just take me a while. Oh Well, "To Infinity And Beyond!".

A Breakthrough!

So, I'm trying to teach myself After Effects as I have a bit of time on my hands. The reason being i'm pretty ill with tonsillitis and covered in some rash that makes me look like something out of a horror movie! Now i'm sure there's a bunch of you out there who are wizes on After Effects but i'm just learning, so bear with me.

I've wanted to learn AE ever since I saw the AMAZING Pixar exhibition up here in Edinburgh a couple of years ago. They had this cinema screen at the back where they had an after effects animation of all the concept art i'd just looked at. It was amazing. All layered and 3D! Needless to say i fell a little bit in love with the idea of becoming an animator. Today I finally figured out how to work with cameras and panning, which was one of the key techniques used in the Pixar work. It's only taken me 2 years to get round to learning it!

So here is my pretty lame test of how to pan and work with cameras.

Really basic but a big step for me! Maybe the next one will actually be a proper animation!

This is a piece from one of my first commissions for London current affairs magazine Diplo. The article I was illustrating was about the growing influence of machismo in modern day Cuba.................and muscles and manliness and some more muscles!

This is where my style changed and I began to use the mac more as a tool, instead of something to listen to music on and watch movies. But I still do that too, sometimes while I work. Fun, fun. Anyway, It was the first piece i did like this and remains one of my favourites. Oh, and not a self portrait by the way!
